A Tabán ma a város egyik méltatlanul elhanyagolt része, központi fekvése és híres múltja ellenére nagyrészt csak a környék kocogói és néhány lokálpatrióta értékelik a városnak ezt a részét (és ápolják a régi kocsmák és mulatozások emlékét - igaz, ők nagyon alaposan). Középkorból származó zegzugos utcák, törökkori pincerendszer, kisvendéglők, a századforduló után többemeletes paloták a Döbrentei térnél, sétányos parkkal, piaccal, Erzsébethíd kávéházzal, szétágazó villamoshálózattal - de terveztek ide még űr-fürdővárost is! Végül a városrendezés és a háború együttesen intézte el mindet (a temetőt is).

Today a neglected area in the town-center, Taban has a famous past - before its demolition around 1930 (called urban management) visitors still could walk in cobbled streets from medieval times, chill out in countless restaurants with various dishes typical of the multicultural background of the inhabitants, with cellars under the houses from the Turkish times, mansions built around the turn of the century, with cafes, a lively market, promenade on the river bank and a since reduced tram-system - even a new avenue with futuristic buildings for the visitors of the baths was under planning! Nothing of those remained after the demolition and the war (not even the cemetery..).
