From the 1st July a regular boat service is going to connect the north and south part of the city. If you have a valid daily, monthly etc. transportation or Budapest card the service is free on weekdays, on the weekend it costs 400 HUF per ride.
Based on foreign cycle hire schemes Budapest also decided to go on with the so-called BuBi project, which aimes to install 74 docking stations with more than 1000 bicycles in downtown. Cycles can be hired in self-service, using either a debit card, credit card, chipcard or mobile phone and can be returned at any other docking station.
Alagút és sikló a háború előtt - Funicular and tunnel before WW II
Buda Castle Hill funicular operates since 25 years again, after it was initially opened in 1870, at that time yet stream-driven and which transported in year 1873 already 1,3 million passangers. In WW II. the upper terminal and carriage was destroyed, therefore the funicular operation was suspended for decades. Since 1986 the two carriages, named Margit and Gellért run again on standard track gauge (1453 mm), covering the distance of 95 m between the two terminals, with 50 m difference in altitude.

Nothing is simpler than finding the opportunity to go sightseeing by bus in Budapest nowadays, if you happen to be in the mood for it. There is a wide range of sightseeing busses touring around all the time, in various colours, with different roofs or mostly double-deckers, sometimes even floating on the Danube. However, this is not a recent idea as the first travel agency founded at the beginning of the last century, IBUSZ, operated sightseeing busses (or cars) with sunroof already in the 1930s, for between WWI and WWII the number of tourists visiting Hungary, mainly Budapest (see photos of the link) strongly increased. After the war blue-white striped, converted IKARUS busses were touring in town, operated by BKV, with departure from Roosevelt (soon to be renamed to Széchenyi István) square. Above clip shows a converted bus in the Sixties, arriving at the end to Vörösmarty square.
