Elkészült a Váci utca 1. sz. épület felújítása, 2012-ben nyit az áruház - vajon ez lesz a budapesti Harrods?
A majdnem 100 éves épületben egyrészt igényesen hozták helyre az eredeti, műemléki részeket, másrészt nagyvonalúan, ötletesen és színvonalasan alakították ki a modern belső tereket. Türelmetlenül várjuk a nyitást!

Construction works are finished in Váci str. 1., store will be opened in 2012 - might this become the Harrods of Budapest?
Original, historical parts of the building, which is almost 100 years old, were reconstructed carefully, the modern interior on the other hand is designed in a generous, inventive way of high standards. We can't wait to walk in!

Mozgó fagylaltárus - In the past: Selling ice cream

Csukás István mesehőse, Bagaméri Elemér óta tudjuk, hogy egy fagylaltárus bűvészmutatványokra is képes. Mintha egy fagylaltoskocsi önmagában nem lenne elég varázslat! Az árusok fehér öltözékben kanalazták az alumínium fedővel takart tartályokból a csoki, vanília, puncs fagylaltot. Aki a régi ízekre vágyik, itt még része lehet benne!



Since the fictional story of Csukás István we do know, that an ice cream seller is also able to perform legerdemains. As if an ice cream bycicle in itself wasn't magical enough! Vendors used to serve customers in fully white clothes with chocolate, vanille and punch ice cream. Those longing for old time flavours can have it here!

Asbóth József (1917-1986)

Az idei wimbledoni versenyek alatt idézzük fel, hogy Taróczy Balázs párosban elért wimbledoni és párizsi Grand Slam győzelmei mellett egyéniben eddig a legjobb magyar helyezést Asbóth József érte el az All England Lawn Tennis klubban, aki 1948-ban az elődöntőig jutott. Asbóth legnagyobb sikere azonban az azt megelőző év párizsi versenyén, a nem hivatalos salakpályás világbajnokságon elért 1. helyezése, így máig ő az egyetlen magyar férfi játékos, aki felnőtt egyéni Grand Slam győzelmet szerzett (nőknél vegyespáros partnere, Körmöczy Zsuzsa volt szintén az egyetlen, aki ugyanezzel a címmel büszkélkedhetett).  

Az itt látható filmhíradó Asbóth 1948-as reptéri hazaérkezéséről tudósít.

Asbóth 1943-1958 között a Bartók Béla út 75. sz. alatt lakott, ezt követően külföldre távozott, ahonnan már nem tért haza. Haláláig, 1986-ig teniszoktatóként dolgozott Brüsszelben, majd Münchenben.

We recall during this year's Wimbledon tournament the memory of Asbóth József, the Hungarian tennis player who reached the semifinals at Wimbledon in 1948, thus achiving the best result in men's (at Wimbledon called gentlemen's) singles in the All England Lawn Tennis club among Hungarians - not to forget Taróczy Balázs, who has won altogether 2 Grand Slam titles, one at Wimbledon and one at Roland Garros in Paris in men's doubles. Asbóth however reached his main success in the previous year in Paris, where he gained 1. place in the unofficial clay court world championship and is until now the only Hungarian man to have a Grand Slam title in men's singles (in women's the only one to boast the same title is his mixed doubles partner, Körmöczy Zsuzsa).

Asbóth lived between 1943-1958 in the XI. district in Bartók Béla út 75., and left the country in 1958 never to return. Until his death in 1986 he worked as tennis trainer first in Brussels, then in Munich.

Budavári Sikló - Funicular to the Buda Castle



25 éve közlekedik újra a budavári sikló, melyet eredetileg 1870-ben helyeztek üzembe, akkor még gőzhajtással, és amely már 1873-ban évente 1,3 millió embert szállított. A 2. világháborúban a felső épület és ottlévő kocsi megrongálódott, ezután a siklóközlekedés 1986-ig szünetelt. Azóta jár ismét a két kocsi, Margit és Gellért a normál nyomtávú (1453 mm-es) vágányon 50 m szintkülönbséget megtéve 95 m hosszú pályán, ingaszerű működéssel.

Alagút és sikló a háború előtt - Funicular and tunnel before WW II



Buda Castle Hill funicular operates since 25 years again, after it was initially opened in 1870, at that time yet stream-driven and which transported in year 1873 already 1,3 million passangers. In WW II. the upper terminal and carriage was destroyed, therefore the funicular operation was suspended for decades. Since 1986 the two carriages, named Margit and Gellért run again on standard track gauge (1453 mm), covering the distance of 95 m between the two terminals, with 50 m difference in altitude.

Hungarian Puli



Korábbi generációknak Bogáncs volt a fajta híres példánya, ma a legismertebb Beast, akinek többszázezres követőtábora van a Facebook-on. A puli színe sokfajta lehet, ez a londoni kórház előtt pózoló impozáns puli épp világos rozsdaszínű. Létezik már a Magyar Pulikért Mozgalom, akárcsak a Puli Space Technologies is. Echte magyar rasztafári. 

For us, children in Hungary Bogáncs used to be the most famous example of this breed, but today Beast grabs the headlines, who has thousands of followers on Facebook. The Puli's coat can have several colours, this one in front of a hospital in London happens to be light rust coloured. There is a movement fighting for Hungarian Pulis, as well as a group of scientist called Puli Space Technologies. Real Hungarian Rastafari.

Miss Arizona (1988)

A film a két világháború közötti időszak híres, Nagymező u. 20. sz. (Mai Manó Ház) alatt található Arizona mulatójának történetén alapszik. (Fotók az épületről itt, a '40-es évek revütáncosnőjéről itt.)

A movie based on the story of the famous revue Arizona, which performed its musical shows in Nagymező utca (currently Hungarian House of Photography) in Budapest until 1944. (Photos of the building today here, of a revue dancer in Arizona in the 40's here.)

Kellett hozzá: Jedlik Ányos, a szikvíz készítés (és számos egyéb újítás, mint pl. dinamo) feltalálója; Vörösmarty Mihály, aki az anekdota szerint a német Spritzer elnevezést helyett először használta a fröccs szót, nyári meleg - és természetesen a jó bor. A fröccsfajták hosszú sora itt olvasható, ezek többek között a:

Kisfröccs (fütty, rövidlépés): 1 dl bor, 1 dl szóda

Viceházmester (későbbi korokban tömbházmester): 2 dl bor, 3 dl szóda

Krumplis, sajtos, juhtúrós, tepertős, medvehagymás, tökmagos, káposztás, rozmaringos-rozsos, nagyi receptje szerinti, Daubner stb. Mellé egy pohár fröccs!

Potato scone, cheese scone, goat cheese scone, crackling scone (with greaves), wild garlic (ramson) scone, marrow seed scone, cabbage scone, rosemary-rye scone, grandmother's recipe, scones from Daubner etc. In the summer a must with wine and soda water (spritzer)!
