Hal, halászlé, halpiac Budapesten - Fish, fish soup, fish market in Budapest

Mióta kevés kivétellel nem tartjuk magunkat az étkezés régi szabályaihoz, mint a rendszeres pénteki halétel vagy szombati gefillte fis fogyasztás, a legtöbben hagyományosan csak karácsonykor illetve egy balatoni / római parti kiruccanás során esznek halat. Igaz, rendes halpiacunk (FRISSÍTÉS: megnyílt a The Fishmonger Budaörsön!) sincs, csak halárusok a piacokon.

Today hardly anyone observes the old rules of eating fish on Fridays or Gefilte Fish on Saturdays, therefore most of the Hungarians traditionally only eat fish at Christmas or when at Lake Balaton or at Roman bank / beach. Admittedly, there is no real fish market in Budapest (UPDATE: The Fishmonger in Budaörs), only fish stalls on the markets.

Ennek következménye pedig az is, hogy ha egy jó halászlére vágyunk és logikusan a Duna mentén kezdünk keresgélni, nem sok halétterembe botlunk. Először a Halászbástya környékén a Vízivárosban - ahol mégiscsak van legalább Halász és Ponty nevű utca - találjuk az évtizedek óta üzemelő Horgásztanyát, itt a ponty, süllő, harcsa, csuka és fogas mellett békacomb is szerepel a kínálatban. A másik belvárosi halétterem csak tavaly nyílt meg, a Belgrád rakparton a Szegedi Halászcsárda. Ennyivel nagyjából ki is fújt a belvárosi kínálat.

Két irányba indulhatunk kifele további helyeket kutatva: észak felé találjuk először a Régi Sipost, majd Óbuda főterén az Új Sipos Halászkertet. A másik irány (érdekes módon) a 12. kerület, Farkasrét felé haladva először az Ezüstponty vendéglő, majd még tovább a Normafa felé a Bajai Halászcsárda (ld. alábbi videót a bajai halászléről) örvendezteti meg a halra kiéhezett vendéget.

Consequently, if we are on a quest for a good fish soup and begin our search close to the Danube, we only find a few fish restaurants. When starting close to the Fishermen's Bastion in the so-called Watertown area, where there are streets called Halász (Fishermen) and Ponty (Carp), we can find a fish restaurant operating since decades, Horgásztanya, which offers besides carp, cat-fish, pike, pike-perch etc. also frog legs. The other fish restaurant is on the Pest side on Belgrád rakpart (quay), called Szegedi Halászcsárda. As for traditional and good fish dishes in dowtown Budapest, that's all we can offer right now.
We can continue our search in two directions from downtown: if going north we first bump into the Régi Sipos restaurant, then on the main square of Óbuda we recommend you the Új Sipos Halászkert. The other direction is (funnily) going up the hills in 12. district, where in Farkasrét there is a restaurant since almost 150 years in the same building (on different names though), the Ezüstponty vendéglő or further upwards, towards Normafa we can find Bajai Halászcsárda (serving the same style of fish soup as shown in below video).
